WHITEWATER — Toppers Pizza, a chain restaurant that got its start in a Whitewater shopping mall is now is wooing Chicagoans, according to an article in Crain’s Chicago Business.
The article notes Toppers recently opened a Chicago location on the Norwest Side of the city in Portage Park. Another is scheduled to open in the South Loop this summer, and two more are slated for Downers Grove and DeKalb.
Toppers founder and CEO Scott Gittrich is hoping to win Chicago pizza lovers over with a menu that includes not only a range of pizzas—from traditional pepperoni to one topped with macaroni and cheese—but also sandwiches, quesadillas and chicken wings.
Gittrich, who started as a Domino’s delivery man in 1984 while a college student in Illinois, opened his first Toppers in 1991.
He’s planning on close to adding 55 locations by the end of 2012. He hopes to open 10 more Chicago-area locations next year.
