BRIDGEPORT — Nestled in a neighborhood of Bridgeport, Brooklawn Ave. Pizza — Delicatessen — Marketplace is more than just a convenience store. It has become a place where residents of the area can come together and enjoy one another.
“We wanted to bring something to the community that they needed,” said Ed Earp, co-owner of Brooklawn. Earp said that parents and youngsters enjoy the comfortable environment they have created.
Starting as a franchise, the business has been open for six years. Earp took over the company last December and since then has transformed it into a neighborhood place, he said.
Although still currently managing the Westfield Connecticut Post mall in Milford, Earp said he is dedicated to what’s provided at Brooklawn.
It has a coffee bar, cold drinks and the typical convenience-store foods, ranging from snacks, health foods, slushies and even homemade cookies. The business also makes its own pizza and an assortment of other goods.
Earp quality food and friendliness keep customers coming back.
“We have gotten to the point where the neighbors like coming in with their families, and the kids like to come in,” Earp said. “They are comfortable walking over and sitting, getting something to eat and watching sports on the TV.”
Earp’s wife, Barbara, said that she thinks everyone is comfortable coming in and relaxing without feeling like having to buy a lot.
“I love making pizza and interacting with the customers,” Barbara Earp said.
“We are here for the community,” Ed Earp said.
