Greece police and school officials have questioned some students believed to have harassed a Greece Central School District bus monitor.
An online fundraising effort to assist a Greece bus monitor verbally abused by students raised more than $305,000 in over 24 hours.
The effort was set in motion by a video of 10 minutes of profane taunting endured on Monday by bus monitor Karen Klein. The Greece school district held a news conference on Thursday.

A GROUP of senior citizens were forced to evacuate their bus after it caught fire on the Monash Freeway.
An MFB spokesman said a “small” fire broke out on the bus near the Burke Rd exit about 4.20pm.
The bus driver pulled over, and the 63 passengers safely evacuated the bus.
MFB crews were called and the elderly passengers are now waiting to be picked up by another bus.
The spokesman said the evacuated pasengers were under the Burke Rd bridge, out of the weather.

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) – The mayor of Colorado Springs is canceling an agreement to provide commuter bus service between Colorado Springs and Denver.
According to an email obtained by the Colorado Springs Gazette (http://bit.ly/Ly42rv), Mayor Steve Bach says there are not enough riders and the bus service is too expensive. The service is scheduled to end Aug. 31.
City officials say attempts to get financial support from other agencies failed and the city cannot continue to support it. The city says the bus has only about 200 daily riders during the work week.

SNOWMASS VILLAGE, Colo. (AP) – The Snowmass Village Town Council is contributing about $300,000 over the next four years to keep free bus service running between the ski resort and Aspen.
The council voted Monday to take the money from a fund for a planned transit center. Aspen and Pitkin County have already given their approval for the bus plan.
According to the Aspen Daily News (http://bit.ly/Mwvof3 ), the no-fare round trip bus ride between Aspen and Snowmass Village or Woody Creek would cost $8 without the subsidy.

BRECKENRIDGE — Combining the Town of Breckenridge and Breck Ski Resort bus systems could improve customer service and image without significantly increasing costs, contractors who conducted a recent study of both systems said.
“You can achieve real benefits in terms of customer service, quality of service and image projection for pretty much the same thing you’re spending now,” said Suzanne O’Neill, whose company, TransitPlus conducted the study. “To me, that makes sense to pursue.”
The same company has been commissioned to create an implementation plan based on the results of the study. The plan will likely integrate certain aspects of the two-bus systems in a phased approach over the next three to five years, O’Neill said.

A bus driver was sentenced to one year in prison on Tuesday by the Court of First Instance for molesting a woman passenger.
The 35-year-old Egyptian defendant will be deported after serving his jail term as per the court’s order. The verdict is subject to appeal within 15 days at the Court of Appeal.
The defendant fondled the woman, a Filipina, and grabbed her in an indecent way. The complainant, a phone operator, 32, told the prosecutor that the incident happened when the defendant was driving her to Dubai Investment Park.

The government of Haiti says at least 40 people have drowned after a bus overturned in a rain-swollen river east of the southern city of Jeremie.
A statement issued by the office of President Michel Martelly says about 60 people were on the bus when the driver attempted to cross the Glace River. Local Civil Protection officials have recovered the bodies of 40 people and are still searching the area.
The statement said nine people were either rescued from the submerged bus or managed to swim to safety.

CEBU CITY — The Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) system for this city is on its last two months of consultation before the feasibility study will be completed.
Colin Brader, the urban planner from Integrated Transport Planning, the consultancy firm for the BRT, told the Movement for Livable Cebu (MLC) that Osmeña Blvd. is the most feasible area for the system.
Brader made a presentation with MLC on Tuesday, following the group’s request that V. Rama be made the major street where the BRT will pass through.

BEIJING—Chinese state media say 17 people were killed and three seriously injured when a long-distance bus overturned and plunged down a deep ravine.
The official Xinhua News Agency says the accident occurred early Wednesday and the cause was not immediately clear.
It says 45 people were on the bus, which was headed from eastern Jiangsu province to the coastal city of Xiamen in Fujian province. It overturned in Fujian’s Ningde city.
Road safety is a serious problem in China, with many accidents caused by poorly maintained roads and bad driving habits.

Transport bosses are preparing a pioneering scheme to claw back control of bus services in West Yorkshire.
Metro, the county’s passenger transport authority, is expected on Friday to press ahead with a proposal for a “quality contract” scheme that will give it responsibility for routes and fares – issues that have been in the hands of private bus operators since services were deregulated in the 1980s.
Hailed as the first of its kind in the country, supporters say the quality contract system would mean simpler fares and fewer timetable changes.
