SAN FRANCISCO, California — The San Francisco Archdiocese reportedly introduced the Vatican’s choice for the new archbishop elect at a press conference Friday.

Archbishop elect SF Salvatore Cordileone

It has been reported that Bishop Salvatore Cordileone of Oakland, who is recognized as a leading force behind the 2008 passage of Proposition 8, will be installed as the ninth Archbishop of San Francisco on October 4th.

The choice is expected to create violent reactions in the progressive city known for its support of gay rights. Cordileone didn’t hold back on his opinions about same-sex marriage during the press event.
