CHESTERFIELD TOWNSHIP, N.J. — An investigation is underway into a fatal crash that occurred here on Thursday morning involving a school bus and a dump truck.

According to the Chesterfield Township Police Department, the school bus, which was carrying 25 students in kindergarten through sixth grade, was en route to Chesterfield Elementary School when the dump truck struck the driver’s side rear of the bus at an intersection.

The impact of the crash then caused the bus to strike a pole. One student was killed in the accident — an 11-year-old girl who was the daughter of a New Jersey state trooper — and 17 students sustained injuries.

Texas Bus Driver Simulator Training Can Make the School Bus Even Safer
It has been two years since Education Service Center (ESC) Region VI in east Texas added a school bus driving simulator to its bus driver training program, and so far it has served nearly 2,000 bus drivers and saved the lives of at least two children.

Housed in a 38-foot mobile trailer, the simulator is transported to training sites such as school districts, where drivers receive truly hands-on training as part of their school bus driver certification. Benney Raley, ESC VI component director of safety education training, said he got the idea from high school driver’s education courses that utilize vehicle simulators. There are 20 ESCs in Texas that are required to deliver driver training to school districts statewide.

We stopped in at Tornado Bus Station in Dallas to drop off some friends who were heading out of town and noticed how packed it was tonight.

As always there is a taxicab out front (Taxi Dallas) awaiting passengers who just arrived to take them to their destinations in DFW.  I believe this company may still be in the Stone Ages since there was no website address whatsoever about Taxi Dallas.
